Les has a varied and rewarding career that He likes to recall now & then. Les attended the Midland Junction Primary school and at level four was moved into level six at the commencment of the new year. His father left his mother and two sisters plus himself when Les was only eight, after winning three thousand pounds ( which was a fair sum of money back then. His mother died when Les was only 12yrs old, Les moved from Midland Junction to Carlisle where he attended Kent St High school When Les was 14yrs old he begun work for Michaledies Tobacco company as a junior clerk He stayed with the firm untill he was 17yrs old and then joined the Australian Defence Forces. He was sent to Melbourne, stationed at Ivanhoe with the 3 Line Of Communications unit and after spending a year with this company He was posted to another division in the Defence corp - Inteligence at Albert Park "Grosvener" Les stayed here untill being posted as Signal Instructor at Portsea Victoria -Then His commanding Officer instructed Les to catch the bus and train twice weekly to attend Melbourne Tafe So twice a week Les had to catch the bus then the train to travel all the way to Melbourne for approx 6hrs of Tafe plus on the other three days Les taught cadets at Portsea how to operate a wirless, erect arials, touch type on teleprinters etc. He also assisted to run the medical repat there He stayed at Portsea untill his discharge in 1963. Returning to Western Australia he commenced working for John Deere in Guildford After several years he joined Perth WA Modeling Works as payroll officer.
Then with Brown's Diary in Charles St Perth as Paymaster and Credit controller Officer. Some years Later he took on a most challeling position with Mt Newman Mining Company First as a temp Site Liason Officer with the company in Perth and Later as Chief Clerk in Port Headland. Western Australia. Some years later he married and Les with his wife Carol settled at Port Hedland however whenhis wife became pregnant with their first child Carol his wife felt insecure in a small town with no doctor so Les left Mt Newman Mining and returned to Perth where he joined a Large international Printing firm. As time progressed and his family grew some problems arose with the last child of the family; consequently Les and his family had to leave Perth and He took up a position in the Goldfields as a Safety Officer First at Laverton then later with Lake View and Star Gold Mining a Gold Mining company situated in Kalgoorlie W A. From here Les had the opportunity to progress through rank and file to become first corporal then an Divisional Officer and later as Superintendant Les had a most interesting career ahead of him He worked for Lake View and Star Gold Mining company but also held many other part-time positions including Grief support Officer both with Kalgoorlie District Hospital and Compassionat Friends a world wide international company supporting parents in Grief over the loss of a child. Sad to reflect but this is what Les and Carol had become after the death of their youngest child. "Natalie" Les established a Grief clinic in Kalgoorlie and assisted other Grief centers to be opended - such as the Roman Catholic Grief support center plus another similair to Compassionate Friends over time I've forgotten the "name" Les also supported the West Australian Police Force in establishing their centre in the North of Western Australia (whereabouts unknown)Les had become a figure head in Kalgoorlie some one to be held in great respect for his work with St John Ambulance and also his work as a Grief support Officer Plus the many other roles Les fulfilled within the Goldfields area. It was here also that Les was given the chance to join a world wide organisation to travel with the company around Australia and at times even overseas. However this was not to be as his wife objected to his long absence from family life and insisted that he spend more time with her and his family. Sadly to say Les left Kalgoorlie; St. Jophn Ambulance; and the Grief Support companies he took up a new life style in Bunbury West Australia It was not long before Les commenced a new turn in his life, dealing with disabled persons; this included leaving his family for long periods assisting and training staff how to deal with circumstances pertaining to the life of a disabled person and their carers. Les at times spent weeks, months, away from family life unfortunatly not realising what it was doing to his own family - eventually his wife filed for divorce and Les became a single man.
Les continued to work both as a social trainer for disabled persons and also as a Grief support Officer Les holds Deploma's both in Welfare and Communitiy Services (Aged & Disabilities) plus a Accounting Level three. Les held the position as Grief Lecturer for Tafe in Bunbury Les went back to University and qualified as a Religious Instructor for schools. He involved himself fully in his work first at Bunbury - Busselton - Mandurah Wanneroo and Perth.
Les returned to Perth teaching at many and varied schools including School of the AIr in Oxford St Leederville. He also worked with Disablility Services Commission - Compassionate Friends - Dial An Angel Rocky Bay and Active Industries plus other companies requesting his services. Unfortunate for Les he suffered a severe heart attach in 2001 and his work came to a sudden halt He was informed by his doctors that his working days where over and he must prepare himself to be content with a quite life. Les returned to Mandurah and is presently trying to partialy fulfil his doctors suggestions and partially trying to lead a much quiter lifestyle whilst still performing a few small tasks within the community.
