Tips for Web Site Designers

Design Tips

Notice how this text font, size and colour do not offend the eye and is easy to read. Far too many sites use colours that simply clash and the font size is too large.
Having a large selection of Key Ring Links , graphics or sound files located
on the First Page is a No No.

Puting too much information on a page is also a No No in a lot of cases. Often you will see this on popular commercial sites.

If you use white text on a black background do not use plain white
#FFFFFF as this is very harsh. Use this #CCCCCC colour white
instead, or the paler shade of  #BBBBBB, or paler still #808080. The font face used here is - Ariel,Helvetica, sans-serif.

Next is the length of this line of text. Ideally the line length should be
about 12 to 15 words long. This allows the eye to easily transfer
from the end of the line to the next line of text. Some prefer 8-10
words of text, however this may be just too short.

You will see some sites where the text extends fully across the page
and the eye will have difficulty going to the next line - especially on
a 19 or 21in screen.

Site Entry Page. Why have an entry page anyway?
For fast loading, to show logo, content, invite entry,
select resolution, frames/no frames, best viewed with type
of browser, and other ideas.
Many pages have a very large selection of graphics and
the length of the page is so long that a lot of potential visitors
leave long before the page is loaded.

Try to achieve a page that has NO horizontal or vertical scrolling.
A lot of web pages launch straight into their home page that contains excessive graphics and the length of the page is very long to accommodate the info.

At the bottom of the page, notice there is a link to
the Top of Page. Sadly, this link is missing from a lot of very long pages.
The code for this is:
In top of sheet   - Tag A NAME="top"end tag
In bottom of sheet   - Tag A HREF="#top"end tag
